How to send a fax online
You don't need a fax machine, a phone line or an app to send a fax. An online fax service dials the recipient's fax machine for you and delivers your document as an ordinary fax. Here is how it works with TitusFax, start to finish.
Want to send one now? No account, no subscription — pay per page, charged only when the fax is delivered.
Send a faxWhat you need
- The document: a PDF, a Word file (.doc or .docx), or a photo or scan (JPG or PNG), up to 10 MB.
- The recipient's fax number, including the area code. TitusFax sends to fax numbers in the United States and Canada.
- A card to pay with. It is authorized when you send and charged only once the fax is delivered.
- Optionally, a cover page: our standard one, or your own letterhead.
Step by step
- 1Go to titusfax.com and choose your file in the “Send a fax now” box.
- 2Type the fax number, then your name and your email address for the receipt. Your name is printed in the header of every page, as US fax law requires.
- 3Pick a cover page if you want one — none, the standard cover with a short note, or upload your own.
- 4Click “Count pages and see the price.” You see the exact page count and price before anything is charged, and you can preview the fax exactly as it will arrive.
- 5Pay. Your card is authorized, not charged. TitusFax dials the number and sends the pages.
- 6Watch the status page or wait for the email. When the receiving machine confirms delivery, you are charged and your document is deleted from our servers.
How long it takes
A short fax is usually delivered within a couple of minutes of sending. Fax machines receive one page at a time, so a long document takes longer than a short one — the status page shows it moving from “Sending” to “Delivered”.
If the fax doesn't go through
Fax lines are sometimes busy, switched off, or out of paper. If a send fails, you are not charged, and the status page offers a retry on the same payment — no second charge. If it keeps failing, check that the number really is a fax line: a regular phone line answers but can't receive a fax.
Tips for a clean, readable fax
- Faxes are black and white. Colors turn into shades of gray, and light colors can disappear — dark text on a white background works best.
- Avoid very small print; text under about 10 points gets hard to read after faxing.
- If you're faxing a paper document, scan it with your phone's document scanner rather than taking a plain photo: you get a flat, high-contrast page.
- Letter-size and A4 pages both work.
Is it private?
Your document travels to our fax carrier over encrypted connections and is deleted from our servers as soon as delivery is confirmed (within 24 hours if the fax fails, so you can retry; never longer than 7 days). TitusFax is not for protected health information — we do not offer a Business Associate Agreement on guest sends.
